Tehran Fall Harvest Recipe: Pomegranate Baked Feta with Za’atar Chili Crisp

Your late-September Tehran kitchen is in prime anaar season — I built you something for it.

This one mashes up what’s actually viral right now with what’s actually in the bazaar.

Why this recipe

Local & seasonal: Every fall, Iranians make use of anaar in every way they can. Right now in Tehran that’s fresh figs at the tail end of their season, pomegranates just starting, plus pistachios, pumpkin seeds, honey, and thyme.

Trending: Two fall ideas keep blowing up:

  • Fig carpaccio with cheese and pomegranate is becoming the most popular snack during the season of this product
  • Baked Feta with Figs + Za’atar Chili Crisp as an easy fall appetizer — creamy, sweet, spicy, crunchy, perfect for sharing. The fig + pomegranate + cheese combo is also showing up as fig goat cheese salad with pomegranate arils

So I combined them into: Roasted Figs & Pomegranate Baked Feta with Za’atar Chili Crisp — 20 minutes, one dish, served with sangak.
